FutureFunds App & WebsiteA financial services company focused on helping young professionals make informed decisions about their financial future.
Overview
FutureFunds Financial Planning is a financial services company focused on helping young professionals make informed decisions about their financial future. For this project, I redesigned an existing website concept based on user feedback, competitive research, and the company’s requirements to improve navigation, information hierarchy, and overall usability.
My Role
I worked through the UX process from research and evaluation through wireframing, information architecture, high-fidelity design, and responsive layouts. I conducted competitive research, analyzed usability opportunities, developed solutions based on user needs, and translated those findings into the redesigned experience.
Tools: Adobe XD
Focus: UX Research • Competitive Research • Information Architecture • UI Design • Responsive Design
01 – UX Audit & Problem Identification
Original Wireframes Created by Previous Designer
I began by reviewing the existing wireframes and analyzing the user feedback from previous testing. Several usability issues emerged, including unclear navigation, competing calls to action, excessive information, and a lack of context around key sections.
The primary opportunities I identified were to:
Establish a clearer information hierarchy
Introduce stronger calls to action
Simplify content to reduce cognitive load
Improve navigation and task flow
Provide more context around services and content
Consider how the experience would translate to mobile devices
02 – Competitive Research
Competitive Research
I analyzed three financial planning competitors – Vanguard, Facet, and Wealthramp – to understand how similar companies present services, financial tools, appointment scheduling, educational content, and testimonials.
The research helped identify common design patterns, opportunities for differentiation, and potential usability issues to consider when restructuring the FutureFunds experience.
03 – Website Redesign & Responsive Design
Using insights from user feedback and competitive research, I redesigned the website’s interface and page structure with a focus on clearer visual hierarchy, simplified content, intuitive navigation, and stronger call to actions.
04 – Usability Testing Plan
User Testing Script
To validate the redesigned experience, I developed a usability testing plan focused on young professionals seeking financial planning services.
The plan included participant screening, task-based testing, facilitator guidelines, and structured feedback collection. Testing would focus on key tasks such as as understanding FutureFunds’ services, navigating the site, locating financial tools, and scheduling an appointment.
Key Takeaways
This project reinforced the importance of combining user feedback, competitive research, and information architecture when improving an existing experience.
Rather than focusing solely on visual design, I had to consider how the order, amount, and presentation of information affected the user’s ability to understand the company and complete key tasks.
The redesign helped create a more focused experienced by establishing a clearer hierarchy, reducing unnecessary information, and making navigation and call to actions easier to understand.
